My buddy in Azusa Ca owns L&T clutches
They built Top Fuel and Funny car clutches in the 80-90's for all the fastest teams.
Their slider clutch design was instrumental in breaking the sub 5 second barrier, Eddie Hill was the 1st 4 second 1/4 mile and their multi stage clutch and management system was a huge part of how, in fact the electronic setup was soo good they outlawed it as taking skill out of the equation to a large degree, the clutch system could adjust 23 times as it went down the strip, it adjusted too quickly allowing the drivers to stomp the pedal when they never dared before,NHRA said it had to be pneumatic, not electric, they said ok, and proceeded to do 4.80's lol!they made $10,000 titanium clutches at a pop! for all the top teams and set up too, which mandatede 100% trust as to no favoritisms or leaking info on setups etc, to remain in a position of this where he and his Father could make or break a team by being untrustworthy, well that turned out good for him!as today he is a track specialist for DSR racing and John Force racing and is called the man inblack!from clutch dust, or the hardest working man in the NHRA, His Dad Tony (an old Roland Leong Hawaiin associate) had Pandemonium funny car forthe 70's or so, He had the worlds fastest flathead too awile i saw it, He passed and the company stayed inthe clutch game with nostalgia dragbikes(Harleys) and carts!(badass!).
He travels the race tracks with a anvil case of stuff he made as a surfboard with skateboard wheels he lies down on and with equipment he has on the and nearby wirelessly maps the surface of the entire track and reads the stickiness, moisture, adhesion , rubber build up etc etc, good for a few 1/100's of a second, but absolutely critical in winning, which the teams he works with do!
